Dad Decides To Show His Two Nervous Sons The Center Core of a Wasps Nest

image via :

There is something so mysterious and intriguing about what lies inside of things that we are usually not privy to.  Dan and his son Lincoln have a channel where they open up all kinds of things together to discover what lies inside.  In the video you are about to watch, we join this family in discovering what lurks inside the bowels of a Wasp’s Nest! Obviously they were not going to go near a live nest, so they ordered one that was no longer inhabited, from eBay.  I find it so admirable that Dan has been sharing his curiosity with Lincoln, in exploring such fascinating things, by doing these in home science projects.

There is nothing better that a parent can model and offer a child, than the fostering of intrinsic curiosity about the world in general, and more specifically in the workings of nature. After unpacking the wasp’s nest, you will see Dan begin the process of cutting open the nest, as Lincoln and his friend seem to be having a mixture of anticipatory excitement and a bit of squeamish fear.

I myself, watched with baited breath, as the cutting open of the nest proceeded. I have to admit I was pretty nervous there could be some hidden wasps inside! Lincoln is a little bit afraid that there still might be a live hornet inside, despite the fact that they have been assured there is not.

When the cutting process is finished their gasps of amazement at the intricacy of the internal structure, matched my own.  Nature is just so fascinating, and the building capacity of the insect kingdom, is truly mind-boggling to view.  Get ready for some really amazing footage!

Dry ice has been used in many interesting endeavors and the hunks of frozen carbon dioxide never cease to amaze us. While it’s most widely known and used for keeping perishable food items frozen during transit, that hasn’t stopped inventive humans from incorporating it into everything from school science projects to chemotherapy, rockets, bug removal, fire extinguishers, fog machines, removing skin tags or moles, and so much more.

While the majority of these alternative types of uses play a specific role and serve a higher purpose, some dry ice tricks are simply for fun and entertainment. That’s exactly what this video of dry ice being tossed into a swimming pool is about; good old-fashioned fun!

The interesting concept was dreamed up and brought to light by one of YouTube’s most hilarious personalities, the Crazy Russian Hacker. He’s full of cool ideas and whether it’s conducting random experiments, testing out new gadgets, or sharing his favorite life hacks, he’s always up to something wild and strange.

For this particular project he decided to see exactly what would happen if thirty pounds of dry ice were dumped straight into a backyard swimming pool. Long story short, it’s pretty awesome!

The clip opens with the Crazy Russian hanging out poolside with an empty cooler, a pair of insulated gloves, and several bags of dry ice. He gets right down to it and starts breaking up the ice blocks into smaller chunks over the empty cooler.

Since his motto is “safety is the number one priority” he works with gloves on both hands to protect his skin against dry ice burns. Once the container is full of dry ice he picks it up and dumps it directly into the pool!

As soon as the dry ice hits the water it immediately reacts and the pool begins to bubble up. The warmer water in the pool starts to melt and break down the ice and soon a dense, thick white fog drifts off the surface before being carried away in the breeze.

The combined effects make it look as if the pool is boiling and you can hear the water bubbling as all of the gasses get released. In the background you can hear the Crazy Russian Hacker commenting on how “beautiful,” “amazing,” and “awesome” it is. He’s hilarious and might be just as entertaining as the dry ice in the pool!

If you’re thinking that dumping 30 pounds of dry ice in a pool may be dangerous, it’s not but only if the proper precautions are taken. Above all else, the one thing you should never do is handle it with your bare hands. Always use insulated gloves because they will prevent hands and skin from getting injured and/or burned by frostbite which occurs on contact with the stuff.

One more thing to keep in mind is that if you plan on breaking it up like how the Crazy Russian Hacker did in the clip, make sure to use protective eye wear as well. I think we can all agree that it’s always best to be safe than to be sorry! Here’s more on the science behind dry ice and what it is:

Dry ice is super-frozen carbon dioxide, which is the gas we exhale whenever we breathe out. It forms when carbon dioxide is exposed to extreme temperatures of at least -109° Fahrenheit. At that temperature or lower it changes from a gas straight to a solid and there is no liquid phase whatsoever in-between.

The inverse of this immediate change also happens to be true of it, so when dry ice melts it goes from solid to gas. That is why and how it produces the cloudy, fog-like effect that it’s known for.

Now that you have seen what thirty pounds of dry ice does to a swimming pool you can try it yourself, should you ever need to! It’s the perfect way to make a pool party memorable and everyone will love the cool, hypnotic effects. Plus, it’s highly likely that no one has ever seen anything quite like this done before and so they’re going to remember it forever.

He Takes 6,000 Matches And Lines Them Up. He Then Lights One Match and Watch The Domino Fire Effect In All It’s Glory!

image via –

When we get hit with a really great snowstorm, I get inspired to build a beautiful fire, and hunker down to watch it grow with my family.  Once I get going on building the fire, I’m a bit of a pyromanic…consumed with the beauty of the flames, and compelled to have it reach that burning crescendo!

This brings me to this MESMERIZING video that I found, that you are about to watch below.  6,000 safety matches were lined up, by a very patient person to form a square.  What makes this footage so amazingly cool , is that safety matches, (aside from being safe), have the added advantage that their tips burn more slowly than the average match.

Because of this relative slowness, when the first match is lit, the flame travels in a domino-like effect across all 6,000 matches.  If you are patient enough to keep watching after it reaches it’s maximum flame, you will see it reverse the domino-effect as it methodically burns out, down to it’s very last match.

It is hard to explain the beauty of this little science experiment, but if you want a few minutes of Zen watch the video all the way through.  Even the black tendrils that remain at the end have an artistic composition.  I hope you enjoy this as much as I did…Let me know.

The trees are beginning to bud, plants are starting to poke through the dirt, flowers are blooming, and the songbirds are out in full force. If you’re a gardener, that means it’s time to start digging in the dirt! Even if you aren’t a seasoned gardener, it’s not too late to get started. Who knows, once you try it, you may just end up falling in love with it!

Gardening is a good for your health, your wallet, and the Earth. Many people find that it’s a very relaxing and rewarding way to spend some quality time outdoors and it helps to improve their mood and life. Not only that, fresh healthy foods like fruits and vegetables can be grown to your tastes and cost much less than the grocery store variety. Plus, foods that you have taken the time to grow yourself always taste a lot better!

Beautiful, colorful flowers, green shrubbery, and ornamental plants can all help to liven up any yard and make it appear brand new. The possibilities for gardens are endless with thousands of varieties and combinations of seeds readily available. If you’re interested in learning more about gardening or making your green thumb greener, look no further. This video and what follows below are some super clever ways to help ease your garden along. They all use everyday items and objects that you probably already have on hand or can pick up at the store for cheap, so check them out. This year garden smarter, not harder!

1. For plants that are sensitive to root disruption, such as beans and peas, use leftover cardboard tubes from paper towel and toilette paper rolls as planters. The tubes make transplanting much less stressful and ensures roots stay separate and untangled from one another.

2. If you don’t have a lot of space to work with try making a vertical garden on a wall, fence, or other space. The video shows how to use gutters to create a wall garden by drilling holes in the bottom of them for drainage. Measure and cut them to size and then hang on wall brackets.

3. To help seeds germinate and sprout earlier soak them overnight in lukewarm water before planting. 4. For a technological and creative approach to gardening check out the available software and apps out there for planning and plotting out gardens. They’re really useful for both new and seasoned gardeners and have even been shown to reduce the chances of ending up with failed crops.

5. For neat rows of evenly spaced plants use a measuring stick. To always have one handy nearby make one out of a long wooden handled gardening tool marking off intervals on it.

6. Keep track of plants by labeling what and where they are located. You can recycle last years labels by scraping off any old marker with sandpaper or use cheap Popsicle sticks, flat stones, or tiles as markers.

7. On cold nights where frost could be an issue you always need to protect sensitive seedlings. Cover them with a terracotta pot at night and simply uncover it the following morning.

8. A very common pest that plants often get is aphids, which are also known by their nastier sounding name, ‘plant lice.’ To get rid of the tiny bugs wrap sticky tape around your hand and brush them off your plants. This will help pick the aphids off while keeping them off your hands as well.

9. Make a super easy irrigation system by recycling old plastic water bottles. Punch a couple holes in the cap, cut the bottom off, insert it in the ground near the plant, and fill with water. This design allows water to slowly be released into the ground so it lasts longer, which is especially important and necessary if you are growing plants in hot, dry, arid conditions.

10. Recycle and reuse leftover water from cooking, like water used to boil veggies, and collect rainwater from your roof/eaves to help water your garden and decrease overall consumption. Every bit helps!

Here’s An Awesome Life Hack To Make Pasta Without a Colander:

image via –

Whether you’re in the mood for some Italian cuisine or you’re pressed for time and need to make dinner in a hurry, there’s nothing quicker and easier to make than pasta. Most people always keep on hand at least a few boxes of pasta and a jar or two of tomato sauce. In fact, they’re considered basic food staples in many households and who doesn’t love a home cooked plate of spaghetti! Pasta is simply delicious and easy to make. Plus, if you ever need to feed a hungry group of people, a big pot of pasta and sauce is the perfect meal to serve.

All that you really need to do is boil up some water, drop in the pasta, strain it, and dump some sauce in with the cooked noodles, right? Not exactly, if you’re making it that way then you’re doing it wrong. If you want to make perfect pasta that tastes amazing, you have to do it the right way. The following tips covered in this video clip will help you do exactly that, so check them out and learn the proper way on how to cook and sauce pasta.

1. Add salt to the water, just before it begins to broil and before you place the pasta in the pot. This will make your pasta end up tasting a lot more flavorful and elevate it to a restaurant-quality level.

2. Do not add in olive oil to the water. If you add oil, the sauce will end up not sticking to the pasta, throwing the taste and texture off.

3. Don’t follow the instructions on the box. Each type of pasta is different in regards to how long it takes to cook. It’s better to taste taste and monitor it as you go along, that way it ends up how you like and prefer it. As for box instructions, oftentimes you don’t need to cook it as long as recommended.

4. Get the correct type of sauce for your pasta. If you plan on pairing it with a healthier sauce, use wider noodles. If you are using a thinner or runny sauce, use pasta with folds, like campanelle or rotini. They work great for holding thinner sauces on.

5. Before you drain the pasta, make sure to save at least half a cup of the starchy water it was cooked in. Then, once you’ve strained it, cook the pasta in the sauce and add in the starchy water you set aside. Cook it all together until the sauce is reduced and ready to serve.

6. Finally, if you plan on adding any additional fresh herbs or spices to the mix, make sure to always add them in with the pasta and sauce last. This will help keep the flavor fresh.

The next time you make pasta for dinner, be sure to try out all these tips and it will end up tasting perfect and absolutely wonderful.

Check out These Five Great Vaseline Life Hacks Everybody Should Know!

image via –

While you may only think of Vaseline as an integral part of your grandmother’s home remedies and go to solutions, it actually really is a product that can seemingly do it all. People use the petroleum based, gooey, slippery substance for all sorts of things. There are countless household and beauty tricks that involve it, whether it’s loosening stuff up or smearing some on minor cuts and burns to help them heal. This article and video focuses on several beauty related uses for the product that may prove useful and come in handy, and will definitely save you time and money.

If you love to paint your nails then you likely have encountered polish bottles with their tops stuck on them. It takes almost superhuman strength to loosen and get them them of when they dry on and stick like that. To prevent this, take a cotton swab and dab some Vaseline around the base of the bottle opening and on the threads where the cap twists on, now it won’t stick the next time you go to open it.

Another nail polish trick is to coat the skin around your nails with some Vaseline before painting them. This will keep the polish from sticking to your skin, cut down on the clean up, and make your paint job look all the more professional.

If you have rough, dry skin on your feet rub a little Vaseline on them before you go to bed. Slather some all over your feet, then put on a pair of socks, and wake up to smooth soft skin. For those of us with sensitive ears that act up and become sore when wearing earrings, try rubbing Vaseline on the metal stud part that goes through your ear.

By coats the earring it helps them slide through and lessens any negative reaction or sensitivity you may have. If the scent of your perfume disappears way too quickly take some Vaseline, apply a thin coat to the area where you plan to spritz it on, then spray the perfume over that area. This works great at holding the fragrance and makes it last much more longer, plus it won’t alter the perfume’s scent.

If you haven’t already, toss a small jar of the wonder product in your bag so it’s always on hand close by. Use it to touch up makeup, soften rough skin, loosen stuck tops and lids, or as a lip gloss/chap-stick stand in when you inevitably lose or misplace them.

Besides being versatile, it’s also widely available and can be found in practically any pharmacy, health, convenience or grocery store around the world. Best of all, Vaseline is relatively cheap and costs only a few dollars, with a jar of it easily lasting a year or two before running out. With Vaseline, the possibilities may just be endless!
