8 Things Everyone Should Know About Sleep Paralysis

image via – Shutterstock.com

We spend about a third of our entire lives asleep in bed. While we’re off doing who knows what in our dreams our bodies are busy at work replenishing and repairing themselves so we’re fresh for the upcoming day. It’s no secret that a good nights rest is critical for optimal mental and physical health, yet for many people it’s hard to come by. For some of them it ends up wasted by a freaky phenomenon called sleep paralysis!

When people get up after sleeping what normally happens is their mind, brain, and body all wake up at the same exact time. Sleep paralysis occurs when the mind awakens first, before the body has a chance to register and wake up. A person experiencing sleep paralysis is able to breathe normally and they can see and understand everything around them, but they cannot move a muscle no matter how hard they try.

The feelings that run through the mind when this type of paralysis occurs can be overwhelming, the whole entire experience is often summed up as simply terrifying. People report that right before they wake up they hear either waves crashing loudly in their head or a very loud bang that jars them awake. They may also have difficulty breathing which feels horrible, as if someone were choking them. Moments like these can last anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes or longer.

The sensation of waking up and being unable to move is estimated to affect less than 8% of people. No serious medical risks have been attributed to sleep paralysis in and of itself, but the mental and physical damage it causes show up in the long run. Furthermore, the teen years are when people often experience their first episode and genetic factors may contribute to it. However, the main causes are believed to include stress, sleeping on your back, schedule changes, and an overall lack of sleep.

Back in the day before anyone knew what the heck was really going on it was thought that some type of evil force or demons were behind the strange phenomenon. Once you read these 8 scary facts about sleep paralysis it’ll become much clearer and easy to see why it’s so scary!

1. It feels like a demon is sitting on your chest. The physical sensation is just as bad as the mental and visual ones. It often feels like there is something strange and irritating weighing heavily on your chest. Your eyes are open, you can see that there’s nothing on top of your body, yet it’s as if a ton of bricks are weighing you down.

2. It makes you feel like you’re dead. A majority of those who experience sleep paralysis equate the experience of waking up and not being able to move, while simultaneously being fully mentally awake, to feeling like they’re dead. It’s basically one type of out of body experience that you never ever want to experience.

3. It can happen even when you are trying to fall asleep. Not only does it happen when you wake up, but also when you’re going to bed. That’s because it can occur at two main points in the sleep cycle, when your body transitions between going into and coming out of the REM (deep sleep) stage.

4. There is absolutely no way to force your body to react. You cannot blink, yawn, or do anything physical to make yourself move. Instead, you have to wait for your body to come out of it and this can take anywhere from a few seconds to even several minutes.

5. It can happen to any one of us at any point in our lives. If you haven’t experienced sleep paralysis yet, you likely will in the future because just about everyone has an episode of it. Sometimes people go through it but they are not aware or conscious of the fact that it happened. They either forget or are not strongly affected by it. Either way, if it hasn’t happened to you yet just wait because it probably will in due time.

6. If you already suffer from lack of sleep then it’s much more likely to happen to you. Studies show that people who suffer from chronic sleep issues, such as routinely not getting enough sleep, are more likely to have an episode of sleep paralysis as compared to their well-rested counterparts.

7. Nobody knows for certain what even causes it in the first place. People have suffered from sleep paralysis for just about forever and yet all the science and research in the world have yet to find a definitive cause or explanation as to what may trigger it. It has been a mystery for thousands of years and remains one to this day.

8. Nightmares continue after waking. Many say that immediately upon waking up they feel as if they are caught up in a terrifying living nightmare. This is because they open their eyes and see hallucinations. They know they are awake and mentally conscious but they see things that are not actually there. It’s so real that it’s easy to think you’re still asleep and in the throes of a really bad nightmare.

Vinegar is arguably one of the most useful substances on the planet, at least when it comes to making life in your home easier, less expensive and safer! Why use nasty chemicals that cost an arm and a leg when you can use something that has been proven by time and countless mothers and grandmothers? I personally use vinegar for more things than I can count, and I have known about the wonderful liquid since before I can remember because my mom used it for literally everything. We are going to thoroughly run through some of the best little known vinegar life hacks that will make your life so much easier.

Is your drain clogged? Try pouring baking soda, followed by vinegar, down the drain and watch the magic. Something gooey sticking to your wall? Grab the vinegar and give it a squirt, then easily wipe it away.

Does your trash can smell like garbage, even when it’s empty? Soak a piece of bread in vinegar and leave it in the garbage can overnight, and voila, no more stank. It can also be used as an all-purpose cleaner: just fill up a spray bottle with one third vinegar and two thirds water.

Too many fruit flies? Fill a glass with apple cider vinegar, cover it with plastic wrap, and poke a few holes. The flies enter, but cannot escape. It can even be used to straighten clothes if an iron isn’t available. A few other uses include keeping cats off the furniture, helping cut flowers stay fresh longer, getting tough stains out of pots and pans and cleaning glasses for a smudge-free sheen. Let us know what you think in the comments.

Check out this Awesome Vinegar Shower Head Cleaning Life Hack everyone should know:

When it comes to cleaning just about everyone loves learning new simple ways to get the same old things done. It can be fun and interesting to discover what nifty and quick solutions people have come up with to solve common problems. This video, from YouTube channel Outdoors and Gear Review highlights a helpful trick for dealing with a common and difficult problem you’re likely to encounter when tidying and cleaning your bathroom up; hard water deposits and stains.

Hard water can be a real pain in the neck and the nasty looking stains and blemishes that it leaves behind on bathroom and kitchen surfaces can be extremely hard to fully remove.  The ugly spots and stains are caused by water that contains large amounts of minerals such as limestone, calcium, and magnesium.

These metals and minerals are naturally occurring, most often in areas with low water tables and mountainous regions, and water that contains them is perfectly safe to use and drink. The biggest downside to it is the crusty, whitish colored mineral deposits and stubborn stains it leaves behind. Over time these gradually build up on stuff, especially faucets and shower heads.

Many people struggle to remove these stains and often think that they need strong, harsh chemical cleaners to get rid of them effectively. However, there’s a better and more affordable way to go about cleaning a shower head with crusted on mineral build up. All you need is apple cider vinegar, a Ziploc bag, and a rubber band.

Simply pour some apple cider vinegar into the plastic bag and place it over and on the shower head. Use a rubber band to secure it in place and then leave it on overnight. Remove the baggy the following day, wipe the shower head clean, and it should be restored to its former glory!

Check out the video for more information and to see just how shiny and spotless looking it turns out. This may be the fastest, easiest, and most natural way to clean hard water stains. It requires minimal effort or exertion on your part so try it the next time you’re stuck cleaning the house!

Check out These 5 Awesome Vaseline Life Hacks Everyone Should Know:

image via – facebook.com

While you may only think of Vaseline as an integral part of your grandmother’s home remedies and go to solutions, it actually really is a product that can seemingly do it all. People use the petroleum based, gooey, slippery substance for all sorts of things. There are countless household and beauty tricks that involve it, whether it’s loosening stuff up or smearing some on minor cuts and burns to help them heal. This article and video focuses on several beauty related uses for the product that may prove useful and come in handy, and will definitely save you time and money.

If you love to paint your nails then you likely have encountered polish bottles with their tops stuck on them. It takes almost superhuman strength to loosen and get them them of when they dry on and stick like that. To prevent this, take a cotton swab and dab some Vaseline around the base of the bottle opening and on the threads where the cap twists on, now it won’t stick the next time you go to open it.

Another nail polish trick is to coat the skin around your nails with some Vaseline before painting them. This will keep the polish from sticking to your skin, cut down on the clean up, and make your paint job look all the more professional.

If you have rough, dry skin on your feet rub a little Vaseline on them before you go to bed. Slather some all over your feet, then put on a pair of socks, and wake up to smooth soft skin. For those of us with sensitive ears that act up and become sore when wearing earrings, try rubbing Vaseline on the metal stud part that goes through your ear.

By coats the earring it helps them slide through and lessens any negative reaction or sensitivity you may have. If the scent of your perfume disappears way too quickly take some Vaseline, apply a thin coat to the area where you plan to spritz it on, then spray the perfume over that area. This works great at holding the fragrance and makes it last much more longer, plus it won’t alter the perfume’s scent.

If you haven’t already, toss a small jar of the wonder product in your bag so it’s always on hand close by. Use it to touch up makeup, soften rough skin, loosen stuck tops and lids, or as a lip gloss/chap-stick stand in when you inevitably lose or misplace them.

Besides being versatile, it’s also widely available and can be found in practically any pharmacy, health, convenience or grocery store around the world. Best of all, Vaseline is relatively cheap and costs only a few dollars, with a jar of it easily lasting a year or two before running out. With Vaseline, the possibilities may just be endless!

The Next Batch of Life Hacks are some incredibly useful winter life hacks that will make your life so much easier this winter:

image via : shutterstock.com

Along with the cold weather, there are a number of special challenges that winter brings along with it, and we all have to just deal with them! Dry skin, chapped lips, stuffy noses, darkness at 4PM, winter storms, the list goes on and on. One of the most annoying things by far is clearing walkways and driveways of snow and ice. The same goes for cars, but while you can often drive through a little bit of snow, you can’t with an ice-covered windshield. Not only is it illegal to drive with an obstructed view, it’s also insanely dumb and extremely dangerous!

While defrosting the car and scraping ice off the windshield seems like a necessary evil, it doesn’t have to be. You really don’t need to wake up extra early just to stumble around in the freezing cold darkness so that you can drive to work. Instead, you can save yourself some time and energy by doing the following:

In a spray bottle container mix together 2 parts isopropyl alcohol with 1 part water and then add in 1 tablespoon of liquid dish soap. Shake it up, spray it directly onto an icy windshield, and watch the ice literally melt away right before your very eyes!

This rubbing alcohol spray is the perfect thing to have on hand for freezing cold mornings and icy windshields. You can leave the bottle in your car and it won’t even freeze, unless it gets well under zero. That’s because the freezing point of isopropyl alcohol is -128.2 degrees Fahrenheit, so when you spray it on the ice, it doesn’t freeze up. Instead, it helps to melt the ice and keeps it from re-freezing. Since all you have to do is mist it on, it’s by far the quickest and easiest way to clear a windshield that’s coated with a thick layer of ice.

Don’t forget to check out the video to see exactly how well this works in action and be sure to pass it along to those who could use the smart tip. If it can make someone’s life a little bit easier this winter, then it’s worth it!

This is super helpful for those rough winter months.

Winter is tough. Along with the cold, dry weather comes a number of challenges that we all have to deal with. Cars need to be cleared of snow and ice and the same goes for walkways and driveways. Traveling often becomes way more difficult than usual and to top it off our health also takes a tumble for the worse.

Many of us are plagued by dry itchy skin, sore chapped lips, and stuffy noses that just won’t go away. These things quickly add up and can make it seem like winter is dragging on forever, especially when problems pop up outside on top of the health issues we may be facing.

Which is why these simple winter hacks, covered by the Millennial Moms YouTube channel, are perfect for right now. The video features some of the most clever ways to solve common winter woes and it might offer a solution to a problem you’re currently dealing with. These are some of the best hacks shown in the clip, but there are a total of fifteen, so be sure to check it out for all of the rest.

1) Winterize Boots- This trick does the job to keep feet warm and dry inside of boots that aren’t waterproof. After putting on your socks take two large plastic Ziploc bags and stick a foot in each. Grab a couple of rubber bands and slide them on over the bag to secure it in place and seal the top off around your leg. Pull on your boots and say goodbye to cold, wet feet.

2) Prevent Static Build Up In Hair- Pull a dryer sheet on over the bristles of your hair brush so that they poke through. Brush your hair as normal to eliminate the static, plus it’ll smell clean and great.

3) DIY Boot Inserts- Maintain the shape of tall boots by cutting a foam pool noodle into thirds or fourths, then stick a piece in each boot and they’ll stay upright, making them easier to organize and wear later on.

4) Stop Wipers From Freezing to a Car Windshield- Take an old pair of long cotton socks and slide them over each wiper, puling it down as far as it can go or reaches. This will prevent wipers from freezing and/or sticking to the windshield, and makes life all the more easier.

5) Organize Winter Gear- Hats, scarves, gloves, mittens, hand warmers, neck warmers and all other winter accessories can be neatly stored in one accessible place with a shoe organizer. Hang it over a door and never search for lost gloves again.

6) Windshield Treatment- This one is the best! A combination of vinegar and water works wonders at preventing frost and ice from building up on car windshields and windows. Mix the two liquids up in a spray bottle, spritz it on car windows, then wipe off with a soft cloth.

7) Boot Tray- Keep floors safe, clean, and dry by making your own boot tray. This one is much more appealing than commercially available ones and works even better. Fill a large metal cookie sheet with a layer of decorative rocks and put it near the door so that when people enter they can immediately place wet boots on the rocks. The water will drip through the rocks to the bottom and soon evaporate. Don’t forget to check out the rest of the tips covered in the clip and be sure to pass it along to those who could use these smart hacks to make their own lives easier.

These are just really helpful.

image via : facebook.com

Having your car professionally detailed can easily end up being quite expensive.  While it’s always nice to have a sparkling clean car, it’s even better when you can have it without spending a small fortune.  Thankfully there are all sorts of cheap ways to clean your car with common items that you probably already have around the house. They can do the job just as well, if not even better, than what professional cleaners use.

These are just a few of the handy tricks covered in the accompanying video so be sure to check it out for even more:

Clean your headlights with toothpaste.  Use regular toothpaste, not the gel type, to polish up car headlight lenses by rubbing it on evenly with a cloth.  Move in quick circular motions to then buff it off and you should notice the grime and fogginess disappear.

Remove stubborn old bumper stickers cleanly and completely with WD-40.  Simply spray the sticker with WD-40 and let it sit for a while, the sticker will absorb it, then you can peel it right off.

Remove pet fur from carpets and seats with a spray bottle, water, and a squeegee.  Spray the water on the seat and then move the squeegee over the area, it will gather and lift up the hair so you can easily pick it up.

Clean air vents with small foam brushes.  They can easily fit in even the smallest vents and pick up all the dirt and dust inside them.

Use coffee filters to dust your car dashboard.  Unlike cloth towels and paper towels, coffee filters won’t leave behind lint or just push dust around.  Instead they work great at picking up dust and you can toss a few in the glove compartment for whenever you might need one to freshen up the dash.

Get streak free windows by cleaning them with newspaper.  It’s the cloths and paper towels that leave streaks when you clean your windows so don’t even bother using them.  Instead, spray down the window with cleaner and wipe it off with a piece of newspaper as you normally would.

Get rid of stubborn, lingering odors by sprinkling baking soda on car seats and carpets.  Let it sit for a couple of hours before vacuuming it up. The baking soda should absorb the foul odors, leaving your car smelling fresh and clean.

There are even more clean car tips covered in the video and it might just have the solution you’ve been looking for so be sure to check it out!

He Realized His Pup Stared At Him Every Night While He Slept. When He Finds Out The Truth It’s Heartbreaking!

image via – youtube.com

Rescuing a dog from a shelter is one of the most selfless deeds you can ever do. Being able to care for an animal, and give them a second chance at life is such a beautiful thing. Not only are you saving them, but they will soon return the favor by being the best friend you could ever ask for. Dog’s unconditional is unmatched and they have heart’s of gold!

In today’s story we feature a man who decided to adopt a dog from a shelter. He drove to the rescue center, got out walked into the shelter and was immediately drawn to this one special golden retriever. He brought the pup home and just knew this was the perfect match for him and his family. Everybody in the household loved the pooch and the pooch loved them all back. He was fully trained, obedient and just an overall delight to be around.

Then one night the guy noticed something strange the golden retriever kept doing every single night. He had gotten a little dog gate so that the dog wouldn’t come in his room during bed time. Many people have these and it’s a great tool to let dogs know what is a dog friendly area of the house and what is not. Anyway, the man realized that every night when he went to sleep, his dog would wait by the gate all night and stare at him from the second he got into the bed, then fell asleep and when he woke up the dog would still be staring.

Initially he didn’t think much of it and thought it might just be because he was slightly uncomfortable in his new environment. Strangely, the behavior didn’t stop, it went on for weeks and then months. Finally the man wanted to figure out what or why his otherwise amazing dog was doing this every single evening. His first thought was, the pup wasn’t getting enough exercise and had excess energy that was causing him to stay up and watch him all night.

In turn, he began to increase his walk and playtime exponentially. The dog of course loved the new level of fun time with his beloved human, but when night came, there he was again, staring all night long. This became a little more concerning to the guy, he now thought maybe the dog had an underlying issue or illness. He brought the golden retriever to a Vet who examined him and did a full work up and everything came back fine. This dog was in great health physically which was great news, but why wasn’t he sleeping and why did he stay up all night staring at his intently.

Since the Vet couldn’t shed any light on what could possibly be going on, the guy went back to the shelter he adopted the pup from and asked them if they knew why he could possibly be doing this every single night. Surprisingly some of the staff had some insight and answer that could potentially be the reason the dog was exhibiting such a strange behavior.

They told him, his old owner’s wife got pregnant and the couple thought it would be way too much work to have a baby and a dog so they decided that they would get rid of the poor golden retriever and bring him to a shelter before the new baby was born. The old owner was crushed because he truly did love this dog but didn’t think he and his wife could handle the full responsibility. He decided to bring it to the shelter. The thing was, he just couldn’t stomach looking at the dog as he dropped him off at the rescue center and walked away.

One day, he waited for the golden retriever to fall asleep in the car. As he was sleeping the man quietly drove to the shelter, brought him in while the dog was still sleeping and left him at the shelter while the retriever was still catching z’s. When the poor dog woke up in a scary new place without his family he couldn’t understand what had happened. He was now alone in a cage, it was scary and there were lots of other strange dogs all around him also in cages.

They figured out that the poor dog, wouldn’t go to sleep or take his eyes off his new family because he couldn’t trust, that this new human wouldn’t just drop him back off at the shelter while he slept. Basically he was too scared to sleep because he didn’t want to get abandoned again! When his new owner put it all together his heart was shattered. This truly was the saddest thing he had ever heard.

That night he got back home assured his sweet dog he would never abandon him, then removed the gate that was blocking the dog from coming into his room while he slept. From now on the wonderful golden retriever could now sleep in the same room and bed as human and hopefully could trust people enough to get some sleep.

The guy posted his story online about his dog’s story and experience. The story quickly went viral and people from all over the world were touched by this one special shelter dog’s story. I dream of a world where all shelter dogs get fur ever homes! I know this golden retriever tore my heart up, as wipe a happy tear off my face as I write this final sentence…. Such a good dog!

She Cuts The Top Off a Banana and Places It In Boiling Water Before Bed. The End Result Is Incredible!

Millions of people experience difficulty falling and staying asleep. When bedtime rolls around they lay down in bed and roll their eyes shut but their minds and brains stay active, preventing them from getting a good nights rest. Not getting enough sleep can wreak havoc on your health and sanity, it adds stress and leads to even more exhaustion.

That’s why so many people turn to different things like sleeping pills, warm baths and milk, or even counting sheep, in a desperate attempt to pass out quickly. Some of these remedies may work for certain people, but most of them fail to bring about the desired effect.

One alternative method that has proven successful and helped many people fall asleep is banana tea. It’s incredibly all-natural, simple to make, and relatively inexpensive compared to lots of other sleep remedies. Minerals are what makes banana peel tea effective and the large amounts of potassium and magnesium naturally act to relax both muscles and nerves.

In addition, bananas are rich in vitamin B6 and tryptophan, which our bodies use and turn into serotonin. Serotonin is a brain neurotransmitter that makes people feel relaxed, happy, calm, and improves overall mood, all of which can lead to better and more sound sleep!

A hot cup tea in and of itself can also work wonders at helping you relax and fall asleep. To brew up a batch of banana peel tea tonight you’ll need the following ingredients:

– Filtered Water – 1 Organic Banana – 1 Teaspoon of Cinnamon –

1. Wash and clean the banana before cutting both ends off of it – 2. Bring a pot of water to a boil and then add the whole banana and one teaspoon of cinnamon – 3. Allow it to simmer for ten minutes and then remove the banana – 4. Pour the remaining water through a fine mesh strainer over a cup – 5. Let it cool a bit before drinking – 6. Eat the banana and crawl into bed!

Give banana peel sleepy tea a try because it may be just what your mind, body, and bedtime routine need!

Do You Have Issues Falling Asleep? THIS Unexpected Trick Will Have You Asleep In Under 1 Minute Each Night!

Most of us spend around one third of our lives sleeping. That is based on the idea that, on average, people get about 8 hours of sleep each and every night. However, averages do not represent everyone and lots of people do not get the recommend amount of nightly shut eye.

There is nothing worse than crawling into a warm, comfortable bed and not being able to fall asleep. It can be pure torture. If you have ever stayed up all night staring at the clock, watching the minutes tick slowly by, then you know the dreadful feeling. Many of us try in vain to lull our mind and body into sleep mode, and fail.

There are many things out there to help people sleep better, from sleeping pills, melatonin, warm baths, counting sheep, and eating or restricting certain foods before bed. Some of them work and most of them fail to produce the desired effects, it all depends on what works for each individual.

One tried and true way that has helped many people fall asleep faster is the “4-7-8” breathing technique. It was popularized by Dr. Andrew Weil, a world renowned expert on holistic health and a pioneer in the field of integrative medicine. The breathing exercise can be done anytime, anywhere, anyplace and is incredibly simple.

Start by placing the tip of your tongue against the area of tissue right behind your upper front teeth, and it should stay there all throughout this entire exercise. Exhale at all times through your mouth and people have found that it can help if you try pursing your lips slightly.

Begin by exhaling completely through your mouth, expelling the air with a whoosh sound. Then close your mouth and without making a sound inhale through your nose for a count of four. After that, hold your breath for a count of seven seconds and then you can exhale completely through your mouth, again making a whoosh sound and to a count of eight.

All that should have been one complete breathe cycle and the exhalation part should have taken you twice as long as the inhalation portion. Repeat the process for three more cycles and a total of four breaths. Dr. Weil describes this breathing exercise as a “natural tranquilizer for the nervous system.”

It only gets stronger and more effective with repeated practice. You should aim to do it twice a day, whether it is to relieve tension, stress, upsetting events, or when you’re trying to fall asleep. Anyone and everyone can benefit from the measured breathing technique because it makes you mindful and focused on your breathing, rather than on the stress or thoughts that are keeping you up at night.

Check out the video for more information on the benefits of the 4-7-8 breathing technique from Dr. Weil himself. Perhaps this simple breathe trick can help you get a better, more restful nights sleep, and if that is a possibility then you definitely do not want to pass it by!

This Guy Went Blind Because He Made A Simple Mistake Many People Make Every Night!

Contact lenses are a hugely popular alternative to wearing eyeglasses. Most people wear them in order to see better and to correct their vision. However, countless others choose to wear colored contacts to change up their eye color or to achieve a certain look. The CDC estimates that in the United States more than 30 million people wear contacts, which are considered medical devices and are regulated by the FDA (cdc.gov/contactlenses).

When a person goes to apply the tiny, thin, round, clear plastic lenses, they place them directly onto the surface of their eye. This application method requires users to have clean hands and sanitary conditions around the lenses since bacteria, dirt, and any other contaminants can easily be transferred to the eye when putting them in or taking them out.

It’s common knowledge among contact users that you should always take them out before bed and never wear them overnight. Failing to do so puts you at a risk for infection, irritation, and even blindness. It’s simply a risk no one should take, but sometimes people forget or brush it off and leave them in anyways.

Also, some “extended wear” contacts are labeled as safe to leave in for multiple days at a time. Those were the type of contacts Chad Groeschen had been wearing for several days when he started to lose vision in his left eye.

At first Chad’s eye was itchy and watery so he assumed it was allergies acting up. But when he awoke one night with a massive headache, sinus pressure, and cloudy vision, he decided to get medical attention. Doctors checked out his eyes and told him that Pseudomonas bacteria had built up under his contact and damaged his eye.

This type of bacteria is most commonly found in the eyes of people who wear or leave in contacts for extended periods of time and if left untreated it can cause blindness. Doctors were able to halt and control the infection in Chad’s eye, but it had progressed too far and he ended up becoming blind in his left eye.

Chad is currently waiting for the open sores in his eye to heal to see if he may qualify for a corneal transplant. Such an operation could potentially restore some of the vision he has lost, but only time will tell. He’s decided to use his story and experience as a way to warn and remind others of the dangers and risks associated with leaving in contact lenses for too long.

Even if the packaging claims it is safe to do so, don’t jeopardize your health and eyesight. Take the lenses out, clean them, give your eyes a break, and if you notice changes or irritation in your eye have it checked out immediately.
