This Is The Strange Reason Why You Always Wake Up In The Middle Of The Night!

image via – shutterstock.com

Did you ever wonder why at times you wake up in the middle of the night and feel wide awake for about an hour?  Most people get anxious, because they fear that they won’t get enough sleep even after they fall back asleep, because work or school demands a certain hour for waking.

Well, given that situation awakening like that isn’t great, but it happens for a really good reason…it is due to an evolutionary trait. Waking in the middle of the night actually happens because historically speaking, this is what you are programmed to do.

The video you are about to watch explains this phenomenon from both an historical and biological perspective.  Up until the late 17th century human beings used to have “segmented sleep”; sleeping for four hours, awakening for 1-2 hours and then returning to sleep for the last four!

This was actually do to a natural biological clock, that has through the centuries been fought against.  According to psychologist Greg Jacobs, this remnant of what is a normal part of human physiology should not be a source for panic.

Rather, if we were to go with the flow of what is a natural bi-modal rhythm of sleep we could continue to relax in the awake hour or two, before the next segment of sleep.  You will hear about how our ancestors used that hour in relaxing ways, which permits the brain to produce a hormone known as prolactin, to actually allow for relaxation to occur, which will in turn, make falling back asleep a natural occurrence.

The video below goes into some more really interesting evolutionary and historical facts about this segmented sleep; understanding of this phenomenon may help you or someone you know not panic when they have an awake period during the night.

Do you always wake up in the middle of the night?

Giant Bear Was About To Drown In The Ocean! But You Will Never Believe What This Man Does About It!

image via – youtube.com

Bears are one of the strongest predators on the planet. They can smell a scent 20 miles away upwind, run upwards of 40 mph, are have teeth and claws that are over an inch long. Attributes like these mean that they are built for hunting and it’s always best to try and avoid them.

These days it seems that there are more and more run-ins between people and bears, specifically black bears. They have proven to be incredibly resilient animals who’ve learned to adapt to our human ways and that has led to an uptick in the number of incidents.

Oftentimes the bears are simply being bears and looking for an easy meal. They smell a birdfeeder or trash and will rummage through it to get a bite to eat. On a few occasions, bears have been known to break into cars to get at a candy bar or tasty treat inside, and left the vehicle torn to shreds in their relentless pursuit of a snack.

In many states when a bear becomes a nuisance, by continuously breaking into dumpsters or other sources of food and being too comfortable around humans, they get tagged and trapped. The bear is then relocated far away from where it was captured and released in the hopes that it will not find its way back.

This was what authorities in Florida were trying to do when they received reports of a 400 pound black bear wandering through a residential neighborhood in Alligator Point, Florida. The bear was spotted going through the trash before entering into a home and had already been ear tagged, so they knew it wasn’t the first time this particular bear had wandered too close for comfort.

After locating the massive animal they hit it with a tranquilizer dart, but that spooked the bear and it took off towards the ocean. The bear started to swim out into the Gulf of Mexico just as the tranquilizer was taking effect.

If he went out too far, he would certainly drown and so a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) biologist looking on went in right after him. Adam Warwick jumped into the ocean without even thinking twice about his own health and safety in order to try and rescue the huge bear. He swam out to it, grabbed the bear around the neck, and started kicking his way back towards shore.

When he first reached the bear it was still awake, but the tranquilizer was quickly causing it to lose its ability to move. The panicked bear struggled to stay afloat and like any drowning animal, it tried to climb on Adam to stay above the water, pushing him down in the process.

Thankfully for Adam, the bear stopped struggling soon afterwards and he reached shallower water. Working calmly, he grabbed the bear by the scruff and dragged him as far as he could using the water to buoy the bear’s massive weight.

Once they reached the shore, it became too difficult to move the heavy animal and so a backhoe was brought in and picked up the groggy bear. From the beach it was loaded onto a truck and driven far away, eventually being relocated to Osceola National Forest.

In the end, the bear survived the traumatizing ordeal and suffered no injuries. Incredibly, Adam suffered only one scratch from his daring rescue mission.

At any moment the semi-lucid bear could have easily bit or swiped at him, but it never once even tried to. All in all, it seems that the worst case scenario of the tranquilized bear running into the ocean turned into the best case scenario of a successful rescue with no one harmed.

I Couldn’t Ever Get My Corn On The Cob To Taste Just Right. But Then I Added THIS Secret Ingredient!

image via – shutterstock.com

Now that the worst of winter and the coldest temperatures seem to have passed, many of us are looking forward to the warm weather and getting outside. While there’s countless things to love about the spring and summer months, one of the best parts about them is all of the fresh fruits and vegetables that we get to enjoy. Who doesn’t crave a sweet, juicy serving of fresh corn on the cob once in awhile?

Corn on the cob is just as American as apple pie and when it’s in season you can often find it at any farmer’s market, roadside stand, or grocery store in the country that’s worth their salt. While eating the corn is easy, picking out the best, most fresh ears is not. Nothing is worse than buying some corn, lugging it home and cooking it up, just to sink your teeth into a bland piece of mealy corn.

You can avoid that scenario in the first place by knowing exactly what to look for when picking out corn at the market. Here are some tips from CBS New York’s “Fresh Grocer” segment on selecting the freshest, sweetest ears of corn. First, check the outside appearance and look for tight husks that hug the corn, avoid loose ones.

Peel back a section of the husk so that you can view the inside kernels and check to see whether or not they look healthy and if they’re arranged in tight, compact, straight and even rows. Avoid ears with kernels that are loose or falling out. Finally, don’t wait a day or two to cook the corn.

If possible, cook it right away to preserve the best flavors because the sugars inside the kernels are rapidly breaking down and turning into starches. Those sugars are what make corn on the cob taste so sweet and yummy, so the longer you wait, the less sweet they will taste.

Here’s another corn on the cob cooking tip. Bring a pot of water to a boil and then add some milk to it. Place the ears in the milky water and drain when done. You’ll end up with delicious, sweet, creamy tasting corn that melts in your mouth.

Guys Spot Strange Pipes In The Woods But They Didn’t Expect To Find THIS Hidden Door Leading Underground!

image via – youtube.com

When you go hiking, you never know what you might find. When two men in Germany were hiking in the fields, they made an incredible discovery! They first noticed a couple of pipes sticking up out of the ground. Looking around more, they discovered a hidden door covered in the underbrush. They decided to look inside.

Behind the door was a metal grate. The men were a little cautious to go past it. However, the lock had already been broken off and so they decided to continue down. Going down some stairs, the men entered a long concrete hallway resembling a hallway in a hospital. The hallway was completely empty except for two things: an old shopping bad and a metal pipe.

While there were many adjacent hallways to the one the men had entered, they decided to continue down the main one to avoid getting lost. The walls were mostly in good condition except for one that looked like it had been hit with a hammer.

In one of the offshoot hallways, they found a narrow hole in the floor filled with dirty water. Even further down the hallway was an intersection. The floor had been broken up into bricks and there was disturbing graffiti covering the walls. The men were clearly not the first to discover these catacombs.

Next, the men discovered a yellow door that had been taken off its hinges. This perplexed the men because the door was extremely heavy resembling a door used in a bank vault. On the door were Slavic letters that read “Exit #2.”

They went a little further and discovered another door that had been graffitied as well. The graffiti read, “Satan I Love You.” That was too much for the men and they headed back the way they had come. The reason for the tunnels’ presence remains unknown at this time.
