Back in the day, people used to put everything in the refrigerator, to keep foods from going bad.  Although, there are more foods than not that benefit from refrigeration, there are some that don’t.  Not only do they not benefit, but refrigeration of some foods spoil their taste, health benefits and in the case of potatoes actually can be damaging to your health.

According to the Food Standards Agency website, it is quite important NOT to refrigerate POTATOES.  The temperature in the fridge causes conversion of it’s starch into sugar.  Once this occurs and the potato is then cooked, a chemical reaction occurs which is believed to be harmful; the sugars join with the amino acid asparagine, which results in the chemical acrylamide being present in the potato. Studies indicate that this chemical is carcinogenic!

Storing potatoes in a cool, dry place will prevent this chemical conversion from occurring.  The video you are about to watch below will surprise you with information about other common foods that are negatively affected by refrigeration.  I was actually shocked by two of the items; let us know which foods you knew about, and which surprised you.

Watch the video below for more food you should never refrigerate:

These days it seems that more and more people are opting to grow their own fresh food and produce. Rather than buying expensive organic products that are pesticide-free, they are choosing to garden and shop locally in their own back yards for fresh fruits and vegetables. With consumer awareness and health and safety concerns at an all time high, it makes sense to grow your own. Whether people do it to save money, or to know exactly how the food they’re feeding their families has been grown, it’s really the only way to be sure about the food we consume.

If you’ve ever wished that you could have a garden but just don’t have the room or a yard, or the resources or know-how, there is still hope. Simply make a mini-indoor garden, all you really need is a few pots or glasses and some food scraps. That’s it. This type of ‘urban-garden’ will cost you nothing, save you money, and it requires virtually zero plant or gardening expertise!

There are more than a few vegetables out there that you can pick or buy at the store, eat, and then re-grow all over again! Below are eight different herbs and vegetables that you can re-grow from your kitchen scraps and the accompanying video covers a few more so be sure to check them out. Try a few of these the next time you’re about to discard scraps in the trash or compost and get the most out of your food and money.

Spring Onion- Cut a bunch approximately 4 inches above the roots and stick them in a glass of fresh water. Place it in a sunny window and change the water daily until the stalks have sprouted and grown tall again. After about 10 days you can re-plant it outside or keep it growing in water.

Garlic- Take the larger cloves from piece of garlic and peel back the dried papery shell only on the end where it sprouts (refer to video for a clear look). Plant the cloves in a shallow, dirt-filled tray about half a foot apart with the peeled end facing up. In about two weeks time little green sprouts will appear and soon your garlic will be on its way to your plate!

This Guy Woke Up To A Strange Tapping Noise On His Window and Walks Up To A Giant Hornets Nest.

image via – youtube.com

What you are about to watch is truly terrifying, yet I couldn’t look away.   Reddit user Longkniferevolution woke up to the sound of tapping outside his window.  That alone would be scary to say the least.  However, what he found was worse than where his imagination had wandered.

What this Akron, Ohio man found hanging from his awning, right outside his bedroom window, stopped him in his tracks.  At first he thought the insects he saw were yellow jackets, but after this mind-boggling video went viral, he found out that they were bald faced hornets. These very aggressive insects that were causing the tapping sound as they hit his window, had incredibly formed the most massive nest I have ever seen, apparently overnight!

We all know that at the end of August, bees are everywhere, but it happens that these particular types of hornets work feverishly to defend the precious eggs the queen has laid.  With the future of their next generation at stake, they are capable of building such a gigantic nest in no time.

While many people who have seen this video have made wild suggestions about how to get rid of this nest, understandably, Longkniferevolution is to be lauded about his decision.  He plans to wait for the first freeze to hit Ohio before he removes the nest.  In doing this he won’t kill the future of the species, and the freeze will kill the existing bees. He’s pretty freaked out but is thinking rationally.

After you watch this 90-second video of the largest active nest I’ve ever seen, pass it on what you would do if you found such a scary spectacle hanging from your awning!  I’m just freaked from watching the wild activity of the hornets on video…really not sure what I would do if it were hanging outside my window.

What would you do in this situation?

He Spent 5 Years Of His Life Trying To Film THIS. Watch What He Caught Coming Out Of The Hole!

What looks like some type of cross between a bear, a dog, a skunk, a raccoon, and a weasel? Here’s one hint, it’s an animal that only a few lucky souls have ever managed to see out in the wild. Here is another hint, it’s also the name of a fictional character in the X-Men comic series. Give up yet? The answer is a wolverine!

Wolverines are one of the hardest to find and photograph animals on Earth. They live in some of the most inhospitable places, and in the most remote regions, all across the northernmost portions of our planet. The scrappy animals look more like bears than their fellow weasel family members thanks to their short stocky build, heavy fur coat, and huge paws with razor sharp claws.

Wolverines are hard to track down and locate in part because they’re extremely solitary animals who like to roam. Since they occupy territories that can be anywhere from 50 to over 350 square miles, that’s a huge area of territory to hide and search through.

In addition, they’re also nocturnal and are most active at night when they go out hunting and it’s super cold and dark outside. Adding to their rarity is the fact that they are built for their habitat and can move with precision speed across snowy, mountainous terrain.

Anyone even attempting to keep up with one wouldn’t stand a chance, no matter how much specialized gear or in shape they may be. Wolverines have earned their reputation for being ghost-like and ultra evasive. They’re virtually impossible to observe unless one is trapped, which is what makes this footage so rare and unique.

It was captured by Andrew Manske, a wildlife filmmaker who has spent his life’s work recording amazing footage of some of the world’s hardest to find animals. It took him five long years to finally catch a wild wolverine and her kits on film, a moment which he describes as “the highlight of my career as a wildlife filmmaker.” Check out the clip here and see how a wild wolverine acts and moves through the snow.

Manske filmed the female and her babies when he was working on a documentary for Canada’s CBC called Wolverine: Ghost of the Northern Forest. He even managed to capture the family active in broad daylight, which is highly unusual.

He attributed that fact to the likely possibility that a nearby predator was lurking somewhere in the area, and so the mother moved dens to keep her babies safe and sound to the best of her abilities.

Whatever her reasons may have been, it’s certainly a beautiful sight to see a devoted mother taking care of her young babies in the wild, where they belong as mother nature intended.

They Brought a Camera To A Secluded Area In Greenland. What They Recorded Is Simply Horrifying!

image via – youtube.com

You are about to watch a moment in nature that was captured by filmmakers Adam LeWinter and Jeff Orlowski in Greenland.  The footage you will see in this clip from their award winning documentary, “Chasing Ice”, is an event that they aptly describe with adjectives that you don’t often see strung together.

They began to see movement begin on the Ilulissat Glacier.  It was “calving” in a manner never ever seen by other human beings before.  The filmmakers called the event in which the glacier collapsed over a period of 75 minutes, retreating a full mile, a “Magical, miraculous, horrible, scary thing.”

As this mind-blowing movement appears before your eyes, it is hard to comprehend what has actually occurred.  You will hear their astounding comparison at the end of video, which compares it to the collapse of an area of ice, that is the size of Manhattan! They further compare the amount of movement in the last 100 years, to what has occurred in the last 10 years…startling proof of what climate change is doing to our planet.

Hopefully this will be a wake up call to raise awareness that we need to start taking care of Mother Earth before it’s too late!

Young 8 Years Old Kid Gets To School and His Head Is Frozen Solid. Teacher Takes a Closer Look and His Heart Is Broken!

image via – youtube.com

In life an education is probably the most vital thing you can get in life to make sure you can get a job and provide for yourself in the future. Unfortunately many people all around the world, aren’t given the opportunity to get an education and set themselves up for a life of success. Others are given a chance to go to school, however the conditions are so terrible, the books are so broken down and the teachers really don’t have any incentive to teach their students, so they don’t even try to fill their young students minds with knowledge and wisdom.

This brings us to today’s heartbreaking story. An 8 year old boy from China named Wang Foom whose mother recently abandoned the family which forced his father to get a job to support Wang and his children on his own. They originally came from a small Province in China and jobs were tough to find, so his father had to head to the city to look for work to provide for his family.

While Wang’s dad went to work in the city, Wang had no other choice to move in with his grandma. Grandma lived over 3 miles from Wang’s school. To make matters worse his grandmother didn’t drive or have a drivers license. Also, the school didn’t have bus transportation that would travel 3 miles out to Wang’s grandmother’s house. During the warmer seasons it was okay, Wang would walk for 4 hours a day to school so that he could get his education however, during winter his 4 hour walk was terribly brutal on the young man.

The winter’s can be very cold and drop well below freezing on a daily basis. One extremely cold day in the middle of winter, Wang’s grandma begged Wang not to go to school because the freezing temperatures could be dangerous and lead to a tragedy. Wang told his grandma there was no way he could miss school that day because he had a huge test and he took school very seriously. Against grandmas wishes Wang left home, took the long arduous walk to school, even though he knew it was going to be cold he wasn’t prepared for how cold this particular trip to school would be. As he walked his hair completely froze and so did his eyebrows. By the time he made it to class, his entire head was frozen solid!

His teacher looked Wang over and knew it was just his hair that was frozen. His cheeks were beginning to burn up and he couldn’t even hold his pencil to take the exam! That didn’t stop Wang though, with the little mobility he had left in his hands he grabbed his pencil and somehow took the test even in his frozen condition. Even though Wang showed incredible determination and amazing resilience and is basically just a little hero, his teacher was very concerned with the whole situation and brought Wang to the principal’s office to try and figure out a solution for this poor frozen kid so this never had to happen again.

The principal was just as concerned as the teacher and snapped a picture of Wang to try to raise awareness and get the school to provide some type of transportation. He posted the photo of Wang on social media and it immediately went viral! It got 100’s of thousands of shares, comments and likes as the world heard his story, saw the heartbreaking image of the young man, and empathy and support started coming in from all corners of planet earth!

This boy, basically risked his life, just to take a test in school! For most of us who live in more fortunate circumstances we easily would’ve taken the day off, waited for it to warm up and then go in and take the test without almost having to die! To add salt to the wound, after school ended that day, Wang would have to take the freezing treacherous walk back home to his grandma’s home!
