If You Have A Pair Of Converse You May Have Noticed These Holes. THIS Is What They Are Used For..

image via – youtube.com

The Converse Chuck Taylor All Star is easily one of the most iconic sneakers that the world has ever known. The original design featuring a canvas stitched upper portion, white laces and rubber toe caps has remained basically the same since it was introduced back in 1949.

Before then the sneakers had already been in production since 1917, which makes 2017 their 100th year anniversary. In fact, the Chuck Taylor All Stars are the oldest and most popular all-time best selling shoes ever. An astounding 60% of the American population has owned, or currently own, a pair of them at some point in their life.

Even if you are not in the majority who own the sneakers, chances are you know what they look like and have noticed the two small holes on the sides of them. The holes are seemingly random because many people do not know exactly why they are there or what they are used for. They do serve an actual purpose and Sarah Barlow explains it all and shows how to utilize them in the accompanying video.

The most obvious use for the holes is that they allow our feet to breathe more, especially if you’re not wearing any socks. Better breathe-ability reduces sweating and the painful chaffing and rubbing that leads to sore stinky feet.

The second and far less known purpose for the holes involves lacing shoelaces through them to give you a much tighter fit. The custom lacing technique is done in the following steps:

1. Unlace the top two sets of holes
2. Take a lace and pass it inside the shoe across and through to the outside of the first inner side hole
3. Thread the lace back into the second hole, the one nearest the heel side
4. Pull it up and across back to the regular top hole (opposite the side holes)
5. Take the remaining lace and pull that end through the same hole
6. Resume crossing laces as you normally would, which should leave one lace with only one cross over

Very cool, I guess you really do learn something new everyday! Have a good one!

His Neighbors Were Pissed When He Dug This Hole In His Yard. But What He Transforms It Into WOW!

image via – youtube.com

In terms of DIY home improvement projects, this one takes the cake. It’s a concept that’s catching on fast all across America and many a homeowner would love having one of these in their own backyard. It’s an underground room built right into the Earth so that when completed it’s hardly even visible.

You can use the extra space for whatever you’d like and turn it into an underground shelter or a storage area for food and wine, the possibilities are endless. Wayne Martin constructed one himself in his backyard and recorded each stage of the process so that anyone could see what it takes to make one.

It takes a lot of muscle, hard work, and it’s definitely not for beginners but the challenging project can be highly rewarding and last for years, if it’s done right. Here’s what he did…

First, he bought a 20 foot shipping container for a couple thousand dollars and sealed off the doors before installing a smaller, inward swinging door on one end. Next, he dug a large hole in the ground that was big enough for the container to sit in and left enough space all around it for adding in extra supports later on.

The next step he took was hiring a septic company to safely do the heavy moving and placement of the container down into the hole. With the box in place, he moved on to the entry way and put in concrete steps that gave him access to the underground door.

After a little more dirt removal it was time to reinforce the underground room. Even though the container is made out of metal, it’s very thin sheet metal, so it’s not as sturdy as most people think. If he were to simply pile on dirt it’d buckle under the weight and over time the entire thing would rust through and collapse.

That’s why Wayne reinforced the container by building a separate framework around it, upon which he placed heavy duty corrugated metal across the top. To strengthen the entry opening, he welded re-bar supports around the rim before putting down a row of cinder blocks and filled them with concrete.

Wayne also had to make the space livable and to ensure proper ventilation he installed two 12 inch air vents at each end. Several smaller PVC pipes were also installed to run wires and utilities through. With all that out of the way, the project was ready to be covered with 6 inches of poured concrete.

Then he finished the steps and filled the area back in with quality dirt so that he could eventually plant some trees and plants on top of it. There were also a couple of cosmetic and safety-related things left to do, like stuccoing the rock walls near the door and adding a handrail or some type of barrier around the entrance edges, but the major building was done.

All he had left to do was build whatever he wanted inside and he chose to turn it into a wine cellar with plenty of storage space, racks, wood floors, and overhead lighting. By the time he was finished the only visible part remaining was the entryway into the ground.

If a person were to glance over the area they’d never know what was in his backyard! The final cost of Wayne’s wine cellar project ended up being $12,500 for materials and hiring a couple of outside contractors. However, he did the majority of the work himself and used his own tractor, so that kept the cost down a lot.

Have You Ever Spotted THIS Small Hole Above Someone’s Ear? THIS Is The Strange Reason Why It’s There!

image via – facebook.com

If you have ever noticed that somebody has a tiny hole above their ear, that looks like it could be a misplaced dimple, you may have just thought that it was from some weird type of piercing. However, what you actually spotted is a body feature that is a naturally occurring mutation in some humans. And while the little hole is not all that common in The United States, it is more prevalent than you’d imagine it to be!

Those tiny holes are best known as preauricular sinuses and they are located right around the junction where the top of the external ear cartilage meets the face. They are considered a birth defect and get passed down from one generation to the next and so on..

The tiny holes can show up on 1 or both ears, with the right ear being the more common site. Usually they are harmless, but just like any other types of sinuses, they can sometimes become infected and require treatment and antibiotics. Some may also form cysts and in rare cases draining or removal is the best option.

Why the holes are there in the first place and for what purpose remains mostly quite the mystery. The video mentions an interesting theory put forth by Neil Shubin, an evolutionary biologist, who thinks that these holes could very well be an ‘evolutionary remnant of fish gills left over’. It’s an interesting theory and makes complete sense, but there could just as easily be another explanation for the strange holes!

The chances of a person being born with a preauricular sinus dimple varies across geographical and ethnic lines. Researchers in Korea found that the small dents are most common among Asian and African populations, where between 4-10% of the population may have them.

In comparison, less than 1% of Americans and people born in the U.K. are affected, which is way less. In Ethiopia, these small holes are considered lucky to have because they’re believed to bring people abundance, riches, money and wealth!

If you didn’t know what those strange ear holes were before, now you know the basics about the auricular sinus. Please pass this article on and help pass it along so that more people can learn about them and be informed!

Apparently This Is The Reason Airplane Windows Have That Tiny Hole At The Bottom!

Airline safety is a top priority all throughout the far ranging and complex industry. Most of the safety-related precautions and procedures passengers see are at the gate and in the terminal, but many more less obvious measures are in place. For starters, airplanes have to meet some very strict design and construction guidelines to comply with government regulations and to ensure passenger safety.

After all, when a plane is traveling through the sky, at high speeds, with a full tank of jet fuel, and contending with all sorts of natural hazards like lightning, hail and bird strikes, safety and construction become the number one priority.

All passenger planes must be certified as ‘airworthy’ before any commercial flights on them ever take off. Everything from the engines to the rivets have to be tested and inspected for performance. One design aspect that many people notice, yet tend to overlook, are plane windows.

If you look closely, you can see a tiny hole near the bottom of the pane. Ever wonder why it’s there? I have. Turns out this little hole has a name, it’s called a breather hole, or a bleeder hole, and it’s located on the middle layer of the window.

All airplane windows consist of 3 layers. The part that you can touch when you’re inside the cabin is called the scratch cover and it’s there to protect the real window from being damaged, poked, or destroyed. The middle piece is called the inner pane, which has the hole in it, and then there is the outer pane.

These two panes are both half-inch thick pieces of Plexiglas which are separated by a half an inch of air. The hole allows warm air in-between the inner and outer panes and releases moisture from the air gap, which keeps the window mostly fog and frost free.

The other, more important, function of the hole is to contain and regulate the pressure exerted on the windows. Planes are pressurized during a flight so that people can breathe safely, and the pressure inside the cabin is much greater than the outside air pressure. The outer two cabin panes are designed to contain this difference in pressure and each is strong enough to withstand it on their own.

However, the bleeder hole makes it so that the outer pane bears the pressure. This is because the hole allows the pressure to become balanced between the interior cabin and the air gap between the panes, thus placing the cabin pressure on the outside pane. If the outer pane were to ever fail, the middle one would then take over, instead of the entire window imploding or exploding (which would depend on whatever the pressure differential is).

Turns out that the tiny bleeder hole serves a major purpose. Many of a planes design aspects and inconspicuous, seemingly minor, details serve very important safety functions. It’s no wonder that the airline industry has the best record on file in regards to passenger safety and transportation.

According to Discovery, the odds of a person dying in a plane crash are 1:11 million, whereas the odds of dying in a car accident are 1:5,000. In comparison, the odds of being killed by a shark are 1:3.7 million (National Geographic).

Those odds put it all in perspective, it’s extremely rare to find yourself in an aviation accident, let alone die in one. That is due in part to the breather hole and the many other plane engineering feats that are designed with safety in mind.

They Were Walking Through The Desert When They Noticed THIS Hole. What Was Inside Is UNBELIEVABLE!

There have been many different creative ideas and projections into the future, about where and how people will live.  Will there be civilizations living in space or under the water?  Currently people live in many unique ways throughout the world.  The town you are about to see and hear about in the following video is indeed unique and astounding.

In a South Australian town where temperatures reach an unbearable height of 120 degrees Fahrenheit,  the residents came up with a shocking solution to the unlivable climate. Coober Pedy is the name of the town that surprisingly is devoid of apartment buildings or houses.

The 2,000 inhabitants have made their home underground! They have escaped the unbearable heat of the Outback by creating miles of man-made tunnels, wherein an entire city of pretty normal homes exist for each family.  Unbelievably, visiting tourists even have hotels to stay in.  There are stores that meet their every need, and the homes themselves have all the modern amenities.

The town itself has a history whose roots go back to the soil of the area.  In the turn of the 20th century,  a father and son came hoping to find gold.  Instead they found opal, which to this day has a wide appeal worldwide.  Word of the abundance of opal brought miners who chose to live underground due to the excessive temperatures.

Today more than 1500 homes, called “dugout” houses exist in this underground city.  It is absolutely amazing to see.  It is interesting that generations of families have chosen to stay there and live underground, rather than moving to a more temperate climate.  Do you think you could live underground?  Let us know what you think.

This Guy Starts Digging A Hole In The Sand. But When The First Wave Hits Everyone’s Jaw Drops!

Surfing is one of the most fun hobbies for those of us lucky enough to live near the water and beach. There is nothing like the smell of the water, the heat of the sun and the cool water beneath you as you paddle out on your surfboard searching for that next big wave. When you finally catch one the exhilaration and adrenaline flows through your body as you effortlessly make your way to shore riding the wave to the very end.

But, If you surf you know that there is a lot of downtime, as you wait for the next perfect waves to show up.  So what is a bored surfer supposed to do while they wait for the next big swell? First, you could do nothing and just enjoy the relaxing beach and ocean waves.  Or you could create your own waves, by digging a whole and building a makeshift current pool linked into the Waimea River.  The Waimea River is one of the longest rivers in Hawaii.

The surfers begin to dig deep into the sand, than something amazing goes down. The trench transforms into a giant hole, and then the water pours in creating an epic wave pool. It’s truly the surfing gift that keeps giving. I have never seen anything like this! Enjoy! 🙂
