Abandoned Pit Bull Was Found Nursing A Newborn Kitten On The Road. Moments Later My Heart Melted

This is by far the most heart warming story of the week.  A Stray Pit Bull was discovered on the side of a street taking care of a helpless 2 day old kitten.  The two were found on March 17 and were quickly brought to Mercy Animal Clinic in Garland, Texas!

The two were examined by Vet Dr. Rick Hamlin and figured out that the kitten was nursing from the Pit Bull.  The two were named Pittie and Kitty and share a strong bond between each other.  Nature is just incredible.

Upon examination Kitty’s eyes were still closed so they could pin point how old the cute feline was.  Pittie had a hanging mammary gland and they could tell she was giving milk to the little kitty.  Both animals are well taken care of and in perfect health

These two are now looking for a forever home to be adopted.  The clinic will only adopt them to a family that will take them together.

After Learning THIS Simple Trick I Won’t Prepare My Sweet Potatoes The Same Way Ever Again!

One of the most popular and readily available food items found in the produce section of any grocery store is the potato. There are often several different types that stores carry and one of the tastiest, most healthy varieties is the yam, aka a sweet potato. Sweet potatoes are exactly as their name implies; sweet!

The orange fleshed root vegetables are considered a superfood because they’re packed full of the vitamins and nutrients that our bodies need, such as vitamins A, C, E, and B-6, as well as beta carotene, fiber, potassium, iron, manganese, and copper.

The antioxidants found in them can help prevent cancer and heart disease, strengthen your immune system, and even slow aging. Plus, they’re fat free and cholesterol free, if that doesn’t describe a super food, nothing else will!

The humble vegetables are easy to cook with and can be prepared in all sorts of different ways. Most people prefer them mashed, baked, boiled. hashed, steamed, fried, or microwaved. Zapping them in the microwave is easily the quickest way to cook them because all you have to do is poke a few holes in the skin, select the preset “potato” button and a few minutes later they’re done.

While that’s the fastest way to cook them, it’s definitely not the tastiest, the skin and flesh turn rubbery and becomes kind of mealy. It’s just not the same as a slow cooked, oven baked potato. Instead of microwaving and ruining the taste and texture, try cooking them in a slow cooker.

In the end it’s just as easy, but the potatoes will turn out much more delicious and you can prepare a bunch at once. All you need to do is wash and scrub a few sweet potatoes, trim off any bad spots, and then toss them into a slow cooker with a little water.

For 3 large sweet potatoes use about ½ a cup of water and for a larger batch adjust the water up to about ¾ cup or more. You want just enough water to steam them and there’s no need to poke them with a fork for this recipe. Cook on high for about 2-2 ½ hours for a small batch and 3-3 ½ for a larger amount.

While the potatoes are cooking you’re free to go about your day and when you get back they’ll be all done. The insides will be evenly cooked, fluffy, and tender, which is perfect for this sweet potato cookie recipe that calls for cooked potatoes. The video covers how to make them and a list of ingredients and directions are also listed below:

2 eggs ½ tablespoon nutmeg
2 ¾ cup flour 1 tablespoon baking powder
1 ½ cup apple sauce 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 cup butter 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 cup cooked, peeled sweet potato

In a large bowl mix the eggs, vanilla extract, butter, apple sauce, and sweet potatoes together. In a separate bowl place the dry ingredients and combine the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

Slowly add the two mixtures together, stirring and mixing as you go, until they are well blended. Spoon the dough onto a baking sheet, pop it into a pre-heated 350 degree oven, and cook for 15-20 minutes. Let them cool before eating and enjoy!

If you use the practically effortless slow cooking method your potatoes will be all set and ready to be added to the cookie recipe, saving you time and energy. Pass this tip along and help add a little more convenience and healthy eating options to the lives of your friends and family!

This Is Why Mosquitoes Bite Some People and Don’t Touch Others!

Mosquitoes are nasty, irritating insects whose presence can easily ruin an otherwise perfect time. The way they buzz and swarm all around, waiting to land on some warm body to bite, is enough to drive anyone insane. The worst part about the pesky blood suckers are the diseases they carry, which they transmit straight into your body and bloodstream when they bite!

Every year worldwide almost 700 million people end up contracting a mosquito borne illness resulting in over a million deaths. That number keeps growing and the scary fact is what makes them the #1 killer of humans.

The current ongoing public health crisis surrounding the Zika Virus, which is spread by mosquitoes, is causing all sorts of health issues. It’s only the latest international health threat that’s related directly to mosquito bites and it’s in good company.

Many diseases are spread mainly or exclusively by mosquitoes including malaria, dengue, encephalitis, West Nile virus, and more. While it’s best to avoid the flying terrors all together, that’s basically impossible because if they want to bite you they will, or die trying.

One way to lessen the amount of bites is knowing what attracts skeeters in the first place. Basically, it depends on how you smell and since mosquitoes have excellent scent receptors in their antennae, they can smell any human within 100 feet easily.

Unfortunately, it also comes down to genetics and 85% of the reason why mosquitoes prefer some people over others is due to their genetic makeup. Here are some of the main factors that make someone a mosquito bite magnet:

1) Exercise and Lactic Acid Production- The sweatier and smellier a person in the more attractive they are to a mosquito. Individuals who produce more lactic acid, which is emitted from our bodies via sweat glands, will draw in more of the pests to their general vicinity. Also, the more perspiration and the older it is, the greater the buildup of lactic acid, meaning your a tasty meal.

Research has proven that fresh sweat isn’t as attractive to a mosquito as day old sweat appears to be, so taking a shower after working hard or exercising can make a huge difference on how many bites you’ll end up getting.

2) Bacteria- Our skin is literally crawling with bacteria and it’s estimated that the average human has about one trillion or so bacteria on their body. The types of bacteria living on our skin can vary greatly from person to person and some varieties affect how much an individual gets bit by mosquitoes.

For example, it has been found that if someone has Staphylococcus and Variovorax present on their skin, they’ll likely suffer more mosquito problems. The opposite is also true, other types of bacteria act to make our skin less attractive to mosquitoes. A few of those types of bacteria include Pseudomonas, Delftia, and Actinobacteria. You definitely want those crawling on your body!

3) Blood Type- The type of blood you have coursing through your veins factors greatly into the risk of whether or not you’ll end up suffering from more bites than others. Studies have found that people with Type O blood are bitten most often, followed by Type B, then Type A. In fact, Type O’s are so appealing to mosquitoes that they’re twice as likely to suffer bites than Type A.

In addition, if you happen to be among the estimated 85% of people who emit a certain chemical that gives away your blood type through your skin then mosquitoes will bite you long before they bite those who lack that chemical. It’s as if the pesky insects like to know exactly what type of blood they’ll be sucking, eek!

4) Carbon Dioxide- Even just breathing is enough to attract mosquitoes because they are drawn to the CO2 you exhale. Individuals who produce more CO2 get bit more frequently, thus pregnant women and heavy-set people who tend to breathe heavier need to take extra precautions to keep from getting bit. Another factor in relation to carbon monoxide is that beer drinkers have been found to get bit more frequently because they too breathe more heavily when under the influence of a few beers.

While people commonly use bug zappers, horrible smelling chemical repellents, and mosquito nets to try and combat the pests, they’re mostly ineffective or plain gross. Fortunately, there’s an easy and highly effective way to keep your surroundings mosquito-free. This video shows how to make a trap to catch the suckers using old soda bottles. It takes just a few seconds and you can make a bunch of them for less than a couple of bucks.

Take a 2 liter soda bottle and carefully cut a third of the top part off it with a serrated knife. Place ¼ cup of brown sugar, 1 cup warm water, and ¼ teaspoon of yeast in the bottom two thirds portion of the cut soda bottle. Place the top of the soda bottle upside down into the bottom half of the bottle and make sure the cap is off and that it fits tight and snug all around the sides. Place the soda bottle trap outside near wherever you plan on sitting and let it do its magic.

Mosquitoes will be attracted to the brown sugar and yeast mixture and won’t be able to resist the sweet, sticky aroma it puts off. When they fly down inside the bottle they become trapped and can’t escape, leaving you with a comfortable, relaxing, mosquito-free atmosphere to enjoy and kick back in. Check it out, the video is definitely worth a one minute view!

Apparently I’ve Been Making Pasta Wrong For All These Years. I Had No Idea.

It doesn’t take a genius IQ or a centuries old secret recipe to boil up a decent pot of pasta. Even people who are a far cry from culinary aces know how to make the Italian staple. Most everyone starts off the process by bringing a pot of salted water to a boil. Next comes the pasta, it gets dropped in to cook, and then the water is strained off down the drain. From this point on it varies as to what people do next but typically they add some sort of topping, like sauce, and most of them are doing it wrong!

There are a few ways in which a yummy plate of pasta can go awry, and the chances are high that you’re guilty of doing some of these things! Professional chef and author Andrew Carmellini shares his knowledge and enlightens us on the proper way to sauce pasta in this video. If you follow his tips, the next heaping bowl of pasta that you eat will be perfect.

The first major no-no Mr. Carmellini covers is this; placing pasta on the plate right after draining it, followed by sauce directly on top, is wrong. If you’re like me then you’re probably thinking to yourself, but that’s how I’ve been doing it my whole life! What follows below is a much tastier way to prepare it, but first here are some common things that people do wrong when cooking pasta:

– Don’t dump the water pasta was cooked in down the drain, save it because you’ll use it later – Don’t rinse freshly drained pasta with cool water, it washes the starch off and the starch is what adds to the texture and taste of it – Don’t let pasta sit and get cold after draining, this just makes it stick together in mushy clumps.

Instead, do the following:

1) Put the sauce on the stove and warm it up before the pasta finishes cooking.
2) Take the pasta out of the water, strain it, and then add it directly to the heated sauce.
3) Cook the pasta and sauce together for at least a minute or two after combining. The sauce will cook into it and make the flavors meld together more evenly.
4) Take a little bit of the starchy water the pasta was cooked in and mix it with the pasta/sauce.
5) Turn the pasta and sauce off before adding some butter, olive oil, and grated Parmesan cheese to it. This gives it a richer, creamier, smoother taste and texture and is how many restaurant-quality Italian dishes are finished off.
6) When adding fresh herbs and spices, always mix them in with the pasta and sauce last to keep the flavor fresh and bold.

Now you can plate the pasta, dig in and enjoy! Be sure to check out the video below

Apparently THIS Is The Way To Cut Onions Without Crying.

Chopping onions is not a pleasant experience. In fact, it easily rates among the top most awful food prep jobs you may ever have to do in the kitchen. Lots of onions are very strong and some can be so potent they overpower you, making your eyes burn and start to water. With the combination of blurry eyes and a sharp knife your cozy night in making a simple homemade dinner can quickly turn into a kitchen nightmare…and give you a real reason to cry..

While the stinging sensation is extremely uncomfortable, it’s also completely avoidable. In the accompanying video YouTube’s Jack Scalfani of the ‘Cooking With Jack Show’ demonstrates a simple trick to cutting an onion without crying. The secret is to remove the bulb part first before you start slicing and dicing because it contains all of the gases that make our eyes burn and water. It’s important that you don’t cut into this bulb portion so do your best to remove it completely in-tact. Check the clip out to see exactly how it’s done and try it out!

To start, place the onion root-side up on the chopping board so that you’re looking right down at the scraggly roots. Take a paring knife and slowly insert it down into the root end about half an inch or so out from the center. Move it all the way around the root base in a circle and cut on a slight angle so that you end up with a cone-shaped piece. When you’re done cutting out the circle you should be able to easily remove the bulb and can discard it. At this point you can peel the dry, papery brown layers of skin off the onion and cut it up as you normally would.

This onion cutting method is effective and easy to do. Plus, it’s guaranteed to make life a little more easy and comfortable, so the next time you find yourself face to face with an onion that needs chopping, remember and try it out. You won’t shed a single tear!
