The Strange Reason The Blinds Have To Stay Open When Your Plane Takes Off!

Passenger safety is by far the number one priority all across the airline industry. While most of the safety-related precautions and procedures that passengers see and go through happen at the gate and in the terminal, many more less obvious measures are also in place.
For starters, airplanes have to meet some very strict design and construction guidelines in order to comply with federal regulations. These ensure that all sorts of standard safety measures are built right into planes.
When you’re traveling through the sky at hundreds of mile per hour, with a full tank of jet fuel and contending with all sorts of natural hazards, safety and construction are essential. In addition, passengers take on an active role in their own safety when aboard the aircraft.
Everyone knows the drill that happens right before take off. The flight attendants run down the locations of all exits and bathrooms, make sure everyone is buckled in and that all cell phones and electronics are powered off. While the inherent importance of all those things is clear, the reason why we have to have the window blinds open on take off and landing is less than clear.
Even so, we all open them if asked to and there is a good reason behind the safety measure. According to airplane crash statistics, the majority of problems and accidents that occur while flying happen during take off and landing. Having the window blinds raised ensures that there are more eyes looking out.
More eyes equal more chances for someone to see any potential issues or problems that may have arisen or that have not yet been spotted. From where passengers are seated they can see the wings, engines, and other parts of the plane body that the pilots up front cannot see or that the cabin crew missed because they’re busy working.
The idea is that a passenger who spots an issue, or what he thinks could be an issue, will report it and raise the alarm so that the crew can evaluate and respond. While we may never know how many crashes have been avoided because of this one simple safety precaution, it’s undoubtedly saved a number of lives.
It makes sense and it’s not a lot to ask for people to open the window shades at key times during the flight. Every design aspect and all of the inconspicuous, seemingly minor, details really do serve very important safety functions.
It’s because of this that the airline industry has the best record on file in regards to passenger safety and transportation. According to Discovery, the odds of a person dying in a plane crash are 1:11 million, whereas the odds of dying in a car accident are 1:5,000. In comparison, the odds of being killed by a shark are 1:3.7 million (National Geographic).
Those odds put it all in perspective; it’s extremely rare to find yourself in an aviation accident, let alone die in one, thanks in part to open shades.

This Is What Happens To Your Waistline If You Drink A Glass Of Red Wine Right Before You Go To Sleep!

image via – shutterstock.com
Many people love pouring themselves a glass or two of red wine in the evening. For some, it’s an after dinner ritual that helps them to relax and unwind after a long day. While many people assume that drinking alcohol before bedtime is bad and can lead to weight gain, new evidence suggests the opposite.
Capping off the night with a glass of red wine can actually be beneficial to our health and even help prevent weight gain. It may be contrary to everything you ever knew or thought about wine, but once you learn more about how and why, it all begins to make sense.
A main belief behind the idea that red wine before bed can help you lose weight and prevent gain is that it helps to suppress the cravings for sweet, fatty foods we tend to have at night. Drinking a little wine after dinner earlier in the evening helps make you feel more full and satisfied at a key time when most of us snack on junk food.
In addition, if you substitute a glass of red wine for a bowl of ice cream, cookies, or chips, you’ll end up consuming fewer overall calories. Alcohol produces zero glucose and red wine scores very low on the glycemic index, which means it is not very fattening.
The National Institute for Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism has even reported that “when alcohol is substituted for carbohydrates, calorie for calorie, subjects tend to lose weight, indicating that they derive less energy from alcohol than from food.”
A thirteen year Harvard University study appears to back this up further. Researchers tracked 20,000 women and found that those who drank two glasses of red wine a day were much less likely to be obese. Compared to non-drinkers, they had a 70% reduced risk of obesity, so don’t feel guilty about having that second glass of wine tonight.
A number of other studies have also shown that when we drink alcohol it signals in our bodies the production of an enzyme that helps metabolize and break alcohol down. Women produce less of this enzyme than men and therefore they end up burning more calories and fat to digest wine.
Red wine has a lot more to offer other than the aforementioned weight benefits. It’s rich in antioxidants and those help combat the effects of harmful free radicals in our bodies, which damage and age our minds and bodies.
One specific antioxidant it contains is Resveratrol, which has been shown to boost heart health and longevity. Resveratrol also helps to protect against and prevent a variety of serious health issues, such as cell damage, Alzheimer’s, and different types of cancers. Red wine also helps our bodies to relax and loosen up and there is evidence that it increases “good” levels of cholesterol (HDL).
In turn, it’s not only good for our cardiovascular health, it’s also great for our mental health since it helps lower stress levels. Less stress at night can also lead to better sleep and less out of control, stress-driven eating.
Of course, as is true with any type of food or alcohol, moderation is key. Consuming too much alcohol can easily lead to weight gain and opens you up to many other negative risks, including developing alcoholism.
Furthermore, if you are going to drink a glass of red wine at night and expect to lose weight, you have to forego consuming other calories. All in all, the main takeaway from this information is that a glass of red wine at night isn’t going to hurt you or your weight loss and diet goals.
If anything, it may be of benefit to you, so don’t hesitate to pour yourself a little.

If You Still Eat Tilapia You Need To Stop Right NOW! The Reason Is Absolutely Disgusting!

image via – shutterstock.com
It is the third most consumed type of seafood in America and it has been compared to bacon in terms of how bad for your health it is. If you haven’t heard by now, farmed tilapia is really not good for you. The reasons why vary and go way beyond the fact that it lacks much in the way of nutritional value.
The non-fishy, mild tasting white fish is incredibly cheap and easy to breed and sell, which is where its problems lie. The vast majority of the tilapia sold in stores and restaurants today comes from overseas where its mass farmed in dirty, putrid conditions.
Fish are grown in crammed, disease ridden conditions that lack any sort of oversight or regulation and bacterial diseases, like salmonella, flourish. To keep the fish alive and infection free they’re pumped full of antibiotics.
Experts warn that this irresponsible widespread practice could lead to antibiotic resistant strains of salmonella and sicken a lot of people. In addition to antibiotics, tilapia are also pumped full of hormones to make them grow bigger and faster.
Methyltestosterone is one such hormone that’s fed to young ones who are in the sexless stage of life because it inhibits the growth of reproductive organs in the fish. This effectively amounts to a sex change and renders them male, which is desired because males grow larger faster.
The effects of these hormones on human health are said to be low but not enough studies have been done on them. Furthermore, emerging research shows that methyltestosterone could be highly toxic to the liver.
One of the most alarming things about farmed tilapia is the diet they’re put on. In China there are hundreds of thousands of operations where fish are given feed that consists of duck, pig, and chicken waste. They’re fed this because it’s much cheaper than normal fish food.
Not only is that absolutely disgusting, it leads to even more antibiotics being fed to the fish to keep them disease free. Finally, if all of the above is not reason enough to avoid eating tilapia, it’s considered to be worse for you than bacon.
A Wake Forest University study found that farmed tilapia contains high levels of omega-6 fatty acids and low amounts of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-6s may lead to or increase and exacerbate existing inflammation in our bodies when they are consumed in excess of omega-3s, which are good for our hearts and brains and decrease inflammation.
While Omega-6s aren’t bad for you per se, they become bad when they aren’t balanced out evenly by omega-3s and eating a serving of tilapia gives you unbalanced levels. According to Floyd Chilton, the director of the Wake Forest Center for Botanical Lipids and Inflammatory Disease Prevention, this leads to “omega-6s are converted to pro-inflammatory messengers that orchestrate diabetes, stroke, heart disease, arthritis, and even Alzheimer’s.”
Part of the reason why they lack healthy omega-3s is down to their unhealthy and nutrient lacking poop diet. Plus, they’re often raised in cramped pools which contributes to them being fattier than their wild counterparts.
In addition to what is mentioned here, there are several other issues with farmed tilapia that are better covered in the accompanying video. One scary statistic that stood out through all of the details is that a farm raised fish is exposed to 10 times more cancerous organic pollutants than a wild one.
When you consider that in light of the fact that they are often fed animal excrement, it drives home the point that tilapia and farmed fish in general should be avoided at all costs.
Will you still be eating Tilapia?

Apparently If You Use Hand Sanitizer You Need To Stop Right Now! The Reason Is Scary!

image via – youtube.com
We often squirt on hand sanitizer onto our skin without thinking twice about it, and why wouldn’t we? The bottles all appear to make the claim that they effectively kill almost all of the germs found on hands and skin.
That promise may be true, but when you use a product that “kills 99% of germs” you inevitably end up killing all of the healthy good bacteria along with the bad. That alone can lead to a lot of far reaching negative consequences, which are covered in more detail below.
Once you learn more about the astoundingly horrible impact that hand sanitizer can wreak on your health, you’ll likely never use it again. In the end, it’s much safer and just as effective to use plain old soap and water to clean your hands and skin, here’s why.
1) Helps create drug resistant bacteria. This is a problem which has been steadily growing and is becoming more and more of a threat to public health. When bacteria are exposed to something that kills it over and over again they learn to adapt and evolve ways around it.
Over time the bacteria develops a resistance to whatever that may be, whether it’s anti-bacterial hand sanitizer or antibiotics, and they become ineffective at fighting and killing the harmful bacteria. Bacteria which has evolved in this manner are called “superbugs” and they’re responsible for a growing number of deaths with every passing year.
When triclosan, the active ingredient in sanitizer, kills the good germs on skin it leaves behind the drug resistant ones because they can’t be killed, and with no competition they flourish.
2) Harms skin. The ingredients in sanitizer are harsh, they have to be in order to kill bacteria, and our skin ends up suffering. Most brands feature ethyl alcohol, aka pure alcohol, as the main ingredient and contain around 65% of it along with other alcohol types like isopropyl alcohol.
Together they form up to 95% of the total product and that’s what you’re slathering on your body. Alcohol is easily absorbed into skin and from there it can reach the blood stream.
It also dries out skin and increases its absorption abilities, meaning that the other harmful chemicals in sanitizer or that you come into contact with get taken up by your body. Also, kids have been known to drink hand sanitizer to get drunk off of it, that’s just scary.
3) It can increase the amount of Bisephenol A (BPA) in your body. As mentioned above, hand sanitizer increases skins absorption abilities and can thus increase BPA absorption rates. BPA is a chemical that imitates human hormones, leading to disruptions in our bodies natural systems, and it’s virtually impossible to avoid since it’s widely used in making hard plastics.
Studies have linked BPA to numerous health problems like cancer, hormone disorders, infertility, diabetes, heart disease, and more. The accompanying video talks about some of these recent studies and focuses more in depth on the BPA problem associated with sanitizer so be sure to check it out.
4) It may contain other harmful chemicals. Many companies fail to list the ingredients or detail what amounts they contain on the label. Other than alcohol and triclosan there are several harmful and dangerous chemicals commonly added to sanitizer.
Scented types are worse because they’re far more likely to contain phthalates and parabens, which are used to preserve the product and make it last longer. They have been linked to hormone disruption and production and there’s no way of telling a sanitizer contains them if it’s not listed, which it likely never is.
There are other issues associated with hand sanitizers but these are the main ones that you should be aware and informed of.
That way you can look further into the risks and decide for yourself whether or not they outweigh the benefits.

Koko The Gorilla Has An Alarming Message For Humanity! This Gave Me Chills..

image via – youtube.com
Koko, the world famous western lowland gorilla, is weighing in on the state of Mother Earth in a message for all of humanity. In the heartbreaking clip she uses sign language to communicate her thoughts and feelings on climate change and mankind’s harmful effect on biodiversity and the environment.
The sixty second video starts off with her signing “I am gorilla… I am flowers, animals… I am Nature. Man Koko love. Earth Koko love. She continues on, changing her tone from one of love to one of urgency saying, “But man stupid… stupid! Koko sorry… Koko cry. Time hurry! Fix Earth! Help Earth! Hurry… Protect Earth… Nature see you. Thank you.”
Koko, who is now 44 years old, has been learning sign language since the age of one. She is said to be able to understand over 1,000 signs of what her trainer, Francine Patterson, calls Gorilla Sign Language (GSL).
In addition, she was simultaneously introduced to spoken English at an early age and understands about 2,000 English words because of this. To truly understand Koko’s message, you have to know the backstory to this video and that it was scripted in part by both The Gorilla Foundation and NOE Conservation.
The French conservation association is primarily focused on preserving biodiversity, while the foundation supports Koko and is where she has lived for many, many years. They worked together to help promote and increase awareness of their message of conservation ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP21) that was held in Paris this past November 30 – December 12.
Her iconic status and extremely rare ability to communicate directly with people is why Koko was chosen by the two groups to act as an ambassador on behalf of endangered species everywhere. She was told about the events and informed of the issues surrounding the Paris discussions and then her reaction to it was captured.
According to a spokesman for The Gorilla Foundation, “We presented her with a script drafted by NOE and allowed her to improvise during a series of brief daily video discussion sessions. The result was edited from a number of separate takes, for brevity and continuity.”
In the end, it offers an eye-opening, powerfully symbolic take on all of the damage to the environment and the harmful effects that man has inflicted on the planet. Take a moment to listen and check it out.
