Summer is here, which brings the promise of spending time outside in nature, and watching our gardens grow. Each of our annuals come to life as nature awakens, giving us the spirit of rebirth. In addition to beautiful plants and flowers, many of us enjoy planting our own vegetable gardens.
Each year I plant tomatoes, lettuce, and fresh herbs, but I never thought of planting potatoes, until I came upon the amazing video you are about to watch below. As we all have grown more and more concerned about what pesticides are doing to our future health, in addition to genetically modified produce, growing our own has more of an allure.
Although organically grown vegetables can be bought, the prices are prohibitive, and you never truly know what is being used on many veggies that are labelled organic.
Aside from health concerns about store-bought vegetables, there is just something inherently satisfying about growing your own, and eating what you, yourself have lovingly produced. Some people have space constraints on their property, which get addressed by Laurie Ashbach, from the blog “Dan 330”; the video shows how she was able to yield a large amount of potatoes in a few square feet!
Be sure to get seed potatoes that are “Certified Organic”, and plant them by late Spring; Laurie got hers from the “Seed Savers Exchange”. When her potatoes were ready for planting, Laurie and her husband inserted four 18-inch fence posts into the ground, forming a square of a few square feet, that gets wrapped with wire fencing for protection.
They then filled it with hay, which looks like a nest, which they then fill with compost or soil. They prepare the potatoes for planting, by cutting them so that each piece has at least 4 eyes; Laurie had 8 medium potatoes, each with 4 eyes. Laurie had 36 eyes to plant; 9 were placed around the outside edge of the “nest” which she did in four layers. With the help of ample watering, the tower grows all summer, and the potato leaves flourish, producing lovely flowers.

It is beyond cool to watch her dig out layers and layers of homegrown potatoes. All I can say is WOW!

If you are a person whom mosquitos seem to find “attractive”, the video you are about to watch below, is for you. People, like my husband, who aren’t as delicious as I am to mosquitos, often ‘poo-poo’ my not wanting to sit outside at nighttime, when it takes 5 minutes for me to be “eaten alive!”
Well, I can’t wait until he watches this video…it offers a comprehensive explanation as to why some people are bitten so often, while others don’t. You may have heard the explanation that mosquito ‘victims’ have sweeter blood, but this is not the case.
Rather, it is the fact that people vary in the types of bacteria that exist on their skin, and some bacteria emit better smells than others, which determine whether the mosquitoes want a taste! In addition to differing bacteria, carbon dioxide given off in our breath, the heat of our bodies (RUNNERS BEWARE), and some other surprising factors make those who are bitten frequently, quite irresistible.

THIS Mother’s Son Died 1 Hour After He Swam In The Pool. THIS Reason Is Terrifying!

Johnny Jackson, a 10-year-old boy from South Carolina, was enjoying a hot summer day at the neighborhood pool. His mom Cassandra walked home with him, having no idea that tragedy was about to strike.
He had been playing all afternoon and told his mom he felt really sleepy. He went to take a nap, which certainly didn’t seem unusual after a hot day at the pool; Cassandra had no way of knowing that her little boy was slowly DROWNING!
When she checked on him one hour later, Cassandra found a foam-like substance covering his face. She immediately realized he wasn’t breathing and rushed him to the emergency room, but it was too late. Johnny was declared dead due to “Asphyxiation by Drowning.”
In the interview you are about to watch in the video below, you will hear Cassandra’s heartbreaking description of what happened to her son. She was explained that Johnny had “dry-drowned” because he had swallowed too much water while swimming.
This phenomenon of a slow death due to impaired lung function, happens when water prevents enough oxygen from reaching the blood, which in turn prevents carbon dioxide from being released.
You will hear a pediatrician, Dr. Daniel Rauch, interviewed about “dry-drowning” on the Today show following this tragic incident. He explains what to look for physically as well as in a child’s behavior, that might indicate something abnormal is going on.
A death by “dry-drowning” can even occur if too much water is swallowed in a bathtub.

THIS Couple Went For A Morning Walk They Had No Idea THIS One Text Would Change Everything!

On a beautiful sunny morning in March, Leslee and David Henson of St. George, Utah, decided to take a walk together. Parents of three children and twelve grandchildren, they had moved to this lovely neighborhood to enjoy as much time with their expanding family as they could.
They had no way of knowing that their walk would change their lives forever, as a driver’s distraction would result in tragedy. In the video below you will hear Leslee share what happened, in the hopes that her story will finally be the wake-up call about the destruction caused by texting while driving.
Carla Brennan, 52, was late for work that morning. She didn’t wake up with the intention of hurting someone…just in a rush, she was speeding and texting. She rear-ended another vehicle which hit the Hensons; David, 57, died on the way to the hospital, and Leslee suffered multiple fractures to her neck and lower back, as well as other injuries requiring 5,000 stitches.
Shockingly, Brennan only received a 240 day jail sentence with a plea deal. Her car was unregistered and uninsured, and she was driving 20 miles over the speed limit when she crashed. ABC 4 UTAH reported the Henson’s daughter, Haley’s, anguished recall; because a woman had to text that she was late to work, she lost her father and her children their grandpa.
In order to raise awareness, and to help ease the overwhelming pain over the tragedy that befell her family, Haley founded “Stop the Texts, Stop the Wrecks.” Thanks to the unrelenting efforts of the Henson family, the state laws of Utah were changed in 2014, strictly prohibiting texting while driving.
Despite the fact that so many states have these strict laws, texting while driving still persists. Watching Leslee’s story in the footage below, provides more information that brings home the consequences of distracted driving.
The Henson’s are one out of thousands and thousands of families whose lives are ruined, because people still believe nothing will happen if they look away from the road for a moment.

THIS Rare Video Of a Giant Moose Was Caught. But When He Shakes His Head The UNTHINKABLE Occurs!

The Eberhart family were at their cabin just outside of Laramie, Wyoming in November of 2015. Out of their window, in a picturesque snowy field, they witness the peaceful scene of a moose sauntering along.
They immediately start to film the beautiful animal, when it suddenly shakes his head, and they literally can not believe their eyes. In the video below you will see what the family witnessed. Kim Eberhart relayed the moment to “National Geographic”, saying, that as the moose shook his head one of his antlers fell off!
You will hear the astonishment of the family in the background, as they keep the camera rolling. As they utter their worst fears for the animal, you will see the actual facts about moose pop up, alerting us that this usually painless occurrence is part of the male moose’s mating season!
This short footage is mesmerizing; despite the fact that we find out that this shedding of the antlers is normal, actually catching the moment that it occurs is very rarely seen. I found that getting a glimpse into such an unexpected moment in the life of a moose, was an awesome thing to behold.

THIS Guy’s Horse Kept Vanishing Every Night. So He Set A Hidden Cam and Caught The UNTHINKABLE!

The folks at Misty Meadows Farm had a real whodunnit on their hands. The horses who were boarded at the barn kept getting out of their stalls somehow and no one quite knew what to make of it. Before they called in Dateline or some investigator, they decided to set up their own little sting to see what they could catch on camera and the footage they gathered was quite enlightening!
As you can see in the video, it wasn’t some teenagers goofing around as they had suspected, rather it was an inside job! The culprit turned out to be none other than a beautiful black mare named Mariska who lived at the farm.
The video shows her taking her stall door latch in her mouth and pulling it up before she slides the door along the track with her neck and body. All of this is expertly accomplished in under 30 seconds, this horse knows exactly what she’s doing.
However, Mariska, aka “Houdini Horse”, isn’t done yet. She wants some companionship on the other side and so she casually shuffles along and skillfully opens all her fellow horse friends’ stalls. One by one she unlocks the doors and frees them. The clever horse is not one to be selfish, she wants all her pals to enjoy a little taste of freedom as well!
The best part of the video is watching Mariska open a little freezer in the barn where the food is kept. She reaches in and helps herself to a tasty snack before closing the lid. After grabbing a bite to eat she then opens the main barn door and heads outside, which makes us wonder; is there any door that she can’t figure out?
